Residents of Madina Commend Hon Sosu for free Health screening exercise
Residents of Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, have commended Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon Francis Xavier Sosu for what they described as his selfless efforts in bringing healthcare services to them free of charge to improve upon their well-being.
The residents revealed this to the media when Hon Sosu organized free health screening exercises for the Pantang and La-Nkwatanang Electoral Areas within the Madina Constituency in Accra last Saturday, April 3, 2021.
According to the constituents, the free health screening which was the first of its kind in the constituency was a timely intervention and necessary.
The exercises they said augmented some of the developmental projects the MP is already pursuing to alleviate their plights in accessing healthcare and education support for their wards.
“We are grateful to the MP (Lawyer Sosu) for bringing this free healthcare to us. Some of us cannot buy the medicines though we are sick. I have been having back pains, I bought medicine and stop because, anytime I go either the price is increased or the drug is not available and I cannot take Car to other places to buy,” a 54-year-old lady identified herself Naa Akweley said.
Naa Akweley comments were not different from several other residents who benefited from the Sosu Health Outreach Team free health screening exercises.
“I feel so excited and good about this help Lawyer Sosu, our MP is providing for us. I would like to commend the MP and plead with him to continue this exercise in ensuring that his constituents are healthy and fit always,” another beneficiary said.
Most of them were excited about the opportunity and thanked Hon Sosu for the gesture and indicated that this was the first time such exercise was being done for the constituents.
The Assemblyman for the Pantang Electoral Area, Hon Alex Adjei Obedika, said the free health screening was timely because it will help a lot of people, especially the aged and those who could not afford to buy medicine on their own.
He also praised the MP for coming on with such an important social intervention program, saying, “I am so happy that today, my people who at the time could not go to buy medicine on their own are getting it free through lawyer Sosu today, we are grateful and we will continue to support him with prayers.”
A member of the Medical Team at the Pantang screening centre, Dr Qwensi Ofori told EXPRESSNEWSGHANA, residents were screened of various ailments including hypertension, high blood pressure and general body pains and given free medication but referred complicated cases to nearby health facilities.
According to Dr Ofori, some of the health conditions identified among the people are associated with eating habit and others have to do with family’s history or genetics conditions.
He however urged the residents to be healthy conscience by ensuring regular check-ups, monitor their blood pressure, and as well take their medical prescription seriously and regularly.
At the La-Nkwatanang screening centre, residents and market women who benefited from the free health screening exercises thanked the MP for the intervention as some of them do not have the time to visit health centres to check their health status.
Head of the Sosu Health Outreach Team for the Health Screening exercise, Dr. Maalug Yennuson, said the screening was based on the prevalence of related cases within the Ghanaian society.
He revealed that cases of Hypertension came up as the ailment most of the beneficiaries had and assured that the exercises which target about a minimum of 3000 people would be reorganized whilst extending the same to other electoral areas.
The MP, Dr. Maalug said has already donated medical equipment to the Danfa government hospital and promised to do the same for all the health facilities within the constituency.
Notwithstanding, Hon Francis Xavier Sosu told Journalists when he visited the health screening centres, the exercise would be replicated in all the 15 electoral areas within the Madina Constituency are aimed at improving the healthy living of his constituents.
He assured the constituents of his commitment to ensuring that they have access to healthcare services, stressing that, plans are far advanced to introduce a mobile health Van that would roam around the constituency to provide free health services to residents, especially the Aged and the most vulnerable.
The simultaneous exercises which took place La-Nkwatanang and Pantang areas were led by Medical doctors, Nurses, biomedicals (Lab technicians), pharmacists, and other auxiliaries medical personnel from the Pantang Hospital and other health facilities within the Madina constituency.
The Team screens over 500 residents for various ailments including, Hypertension, Diabetes, typhoid, malaria, and Hepatitis B, among others for free.
Most of the beneficiaries said they seldom visit the hospital for a medical check-up and expressed gratitude to the MP for the free health screening exercise.
The medical officers also spent the time to give medical counseling to beneficiaries on how to take good care of themselves and stay healthy.
